The showy parts of this fern are finally dissected, vegetative (sterile) fronds which, as the common name suggest exhibit the feathery appearance of long ostrich plumes. Easily grown in average to medium wet soil, in part shade to full shade best in rich soil constant moisture. Combines well with astilbes or hostas. Plant in conjunction with early spring wild flowers such as trilliums or bloodroot. Hardy in zones 3-7.

The bare root ferns arrived at my home extremely quickly in about two days. I didn’t expect them so fast, and they had to stay in their packaging for a couple of days. Planted all twenty bare root ferns, and in one weeks time sixteen fern fronds are already above ground and growing. Everything about this experience has been extremely positive.
